These last few months have highlighted the challenges of matching food supply to demand and need for robust short chain distribution systems. We know that some local suppliers have developed new markets and business growth over the last few months and as we, hopefully, come out of the crisis to a new norm are looking at future business plans where local suppliers are valued. At the FEP we have been working on 2 projects that will support growing companies and develop more robust short chain distribution. We would welcome feedback on:
Space to Grow: We are currently planning to build several food processing and storage units on the FEP. These units will be between 3,500 and 7,500 sq. feet each in size, co-located in a single block. It is envisaged that they will be shell buildings that can be fitted out to your own specification. If you are running out of space and looking for future options, we would like to talk to you at this early stage.
Local distribution Hub: The concept of a large central distribution hub for chilled, frozen and ambient food & drink was in the original plan for the FEP. Our location, with the planned upgrade of the A47, is ideal for this vision and we have the planning in place and land available to build a facility quickly. We are currently co-ordinating a business plan and would like to hear from local producers who would use such a facility and from current distribution businesses who would like to operate such a facility.
